What Causes Fires in Chimneys?

Chimney fires can occur when the flues have deposits left in them. A chimney fire is the soot or creosote burning inside the appliance outlet or flue which can make the appliance not function correctly. It can cause damage to the appliance, the chimney or the house.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

All the chimney and flues should be checked at least once a year to make sure they are clear and in working order.

A blocked chimney can cause both carbon monoxide poisoning or chimney fires. It is therefore important to to have a NACS certified chimney sweep visit regularly.
